Full Grain Leather

By using the two oldest tanneries in the US, we choose to support those who uphold traditional processes from a bygone era. Our leather primarily comes from Herman Oak, established in 1881 and the olive green leather is sourced from Wickett & Craig, founded in 1867. We choose vegetable-tanned leather for its environmental benefits, exceptional durability, and the rich character it brings to every piece. All Dark Forest wallets are crafted from Full grain leather.

Hand dyeing

I go the extra mile by hand-dyeing each piece, because of the exceptional patina that develops over 10-plus years of using this style of leather. This distinctive technique serves as the "cornerstone" of our process, setting us apart from others in the industry.

Machine

I take great pride in honoring and preserving the rich traditions of American leathercraft. In my quest to stay true to these time-honored practices, I discovered a vintage lock stitch machine from 1911, a relic from an era when such machines were commonly employed by cowboys to create saddles. Mastering this rare and intricate machine was a challenging journey, filled with painstaking trials and tribulations, especially given the scarcity of information available. Despite these challenges, I embraced the process to produce unparalleled leather goods. The robust thread I use ensures that each wallet is fortified with every stitch, enhancing its durability and longevity, a testament to the enduring quality of traditional craftsmanship.Honoring the traditions of the past.
